Rumen stomach tube for diagnosing and testing the development of the gastrointestinal tract of heifers and calves
Dawca jest jednym z podmiotów współuprawnionych do technologii
The rumen stomach tube for diagnosing and testing the development of the gastrointestinal tract of heifers and calves was designed so as to eliminate common complications and adverse effects of stomach tubes used for testing in the youngest calves. Known laparoscopes for animal diagnostics enable sampling of pathological tissue but are not suitable for the collection of digesta or drug and feed administration. In turn, patented drug or feed administration solutions commercially available on the market are intended exclusively for adult animals. When used in young individuals, they become highly problematic and carry the risk of injuries.
The technology was the subject of application No. W.125769 for protection of a registered utility model, filed with the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland on October 25, 2016.

Known tubes are perfectly suitable for adult ruminants, in particular for cattle, whose gastrointestinal tract is developed and less vulnerable to irritation and mechanical damage which occurs when sampling rumen contents or administering feed or medicinal additives by drenching. This cannot be done for young individuals, primarily because the known stomach tubes are of limited use in juvenile animals. These limitations are mainly due to differences in the anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract. The problems related to esophageal damage (or damage to other parts of the gastrointestinal tract) cannot be solved by simply rescaling the tube or its tip (or reducing its size). Furthermore, a narrower tube becomes more flexible and thus may accidentally penetrate the larynx and damage the respiratory system. If used for drenching, the fluid may flood the lungs or, in specific cases, may cause the animal to fall. This is why the developed stomach tube design enables collecting rumen contents for the purposes of microbiological and biochemical analyses; administering feed, in particular colostrum or milk replacers; and clearing the gastrointestinal tract during bloating. The designed rumen stomach tube enables diagnosing and testing the development of the gastrointestinal tract of heifers and calves.
